Half A Hot Second

Life flies by...Take 2-4 hours and go on a hike or a peaceful scenic walk with your favorite companion(s) and let nature and the outdoors ground you.

I can remember the days of waking up to the sound of car horns & sirens, jackhammers and energetic voices in the distant. Did I sleep through my alarm? Is it noon? No, you live in the city and it is 7am on a Monday morning.

Living in an urban setting can definitely make you feel isolated from nature. Sure there are beautiful parks embedded in cities full of skyscrapers and high rises and with quiet corners tuck away in neighborhoods but do you ever crave the type of nature where you don’t hear the noises of city life? Where you don’t see building after building and store after store? Don’t get me wrong, I can feel alive when I am walking down a street in NYC during the busiest time of the day. As the day moves forward and turns to night, you eventually get use to the noise so much that you don’t even hear it anymore. But it is there.

Live in a suburban setting? The sound of chirping birds and pecking woodpeckers serenade you as you wake up. Ah this is nice! soon to be replaced with the sound of endless landscapers on every block or the occasional looney neighbor that just likes drama. There might be more trees and space to stretch but the noise is there is just hovering.

I can get my daily quiet time walking our dog in the wee hours of the morning or taking a summer evening stroll with the hubby down by the marina but sometimes, I just need that full reset. Time passes quickly. Go take a scenic walk where you can see & hear a waterfall or view a landscape where the mountain fades into the distance and merges with the horizon.

Regardless of whether you live in an urban, suburban or even a rural setting, there is an abundance of nature out there that provides the solitude the body and mind craves.
