Summer In Montauk

We have all heard someone say “Once July 4th passes, summer is over”. I do agree summer vanishes quickly does which is why I love to plan a couple of mini vacas for July & August.

Montauk might be the laid back sleepy town in the Hamptons but it is still considered an expensive destination. At least for us it is. 😜. There are ways to save. Most lodging in the area will require a minimum # of nights especially when arriving on a Friday. However, if you visit during the week, you will not only save on the nightly rate but the minimum # of nights is usually waived. That is what we did. You need to decide on your must haves for the trip and resist any deviation. For us, it was an oceanfront room. We were on the second floor with an unobstructed view and soundscape of the Atlantic Ocean. At night, we purposely left our sliding door open so we could hear the soothing sounds of the ocean waves.

Day 1

• Took a relaxing walk through the quaint downtown village which was in walking distance from our hotel.
• Dinner: Our first meal had to include the freshest local seafood. Hooked
• A nighttime walk on the beach which had us pass by many bonfires. Doesn’t that just scream SUMMER!

Day 2

• Breakfast: Scored outside seating so we were able to people watch & take in the view of the main strip. Anthony’s Pancake House
• Short drive to Montauk Point Lighthouse (1st built lighthouse in NY). A historic landmark on breathtaking grounds is a must see.
• Lunch: The Montauket is the “go to” spot for spectacular sunsets over the Long Island sound. Unfortunately, the forecast that night was an overcast sky so no summer sunset for us to witness which is why we decided to grab lunch instead and trade in the sunset view for a cluster of sailboats and floating white sails.
• Dinner: Awesome menu selection. The difficult part was choosing what to eat. Tauk at Trail’s End

Day 3

• Breakfast: Quick stop at Goldberg’s Famous Bagels for the ride home.
